Whole House Approach

Create your own energy-saving checklist and save your dollars from flying through the cracks!

Upstairs. Downstairs. All around the walls.

  • Install programmable thermostats. This could save you up to 33% on your energy bill!
  • Replace your furnace filter.
  • Insulate hot water tank and pipes.
  • Lower water heater temperature.
  • Replace faulty door seals and weather stripping.
  • Keep doors closed to colder rooms.
  • Install pre-cut foam pads behind switch plates and outlets.
  • Add insulation where needed.
  • Seal or upgrade windows. Leaky windows account for up to 25-40% of home heat loss.
  • Install compact fluorescent bulbs.
  • Turn off power bars when not in use.
  • Turn off lights when you leave a room.

Saving while dining…

  • Use smaller pans.
  • Use slow cookers, electric frypans, and kettles.
  • Clean refrigerator coils.
  • Use dishwasher for full loads only.
  • When buying new appliances check the energuide (rebates).

Keeping Clean. Saving Energy.

  • Wash clothes in cold water. Full loads only.
  • Use cool cycle on dryer when possible.
  • Hang clothes to dry.
  • Take quick showers instead of baths.
  • Install a low volume showerhead.
  • Add a dryer vent seal.
