2006 Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) National Pollution Prevention Award for Greenhouse Gases Reduction
The City of Fredericton was awarded this National Award for the innovative and effective greenhouse gas emission reduction corporate initiatives associated with the 'First to Kyoto' Project. Fredericton was the first municipality in the country to ever have received this award since its inception in 1997.

Letter of Congratulations from Former Vice-President Al Gore
Noted environmentalist and former Vice-President of the United States Al Gore sent a letter of congratulations to our Mayor Brad Woodside to congratulate him on the actions taking place in Fredericton to combat climate change. Click here to see a copy of the letter.
2006 Environmental Leadership Award
This award was presented to the volunteer group Fredericton Backyard Composters for their work in promoting backyard composting as a method to reduce organic material going to the landfill.
2006 Environmental Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement
Ellen MacGillivray was posthumously awarded a lifetime achievement award for her service to the Fredericton Tree Commission and in recognition of her dedication to improving our urban forests.
