Greens Shops Program Honours 10 New Members

The 10 newest members of the City of Fredericton’s Green Shops Program were honoured by Mayor Brad Woodside during a meeting of City Council today.
“I am pleased to recognize those businesses that have successfully completed audits and have earned, or are on their way to earning, Green Shops medals,” said Mayor Brad Woodside. “On behalf of Council I wish to congratulate our newest Green Shops members for setting a positive example and helping Fredericton become a more sustainable community.”
Launched in October of last year, the Green Shops program is designed to encourage businesses in Fredericton to implement actionable items which simultaneously reduce their environmental impact and operating costs, and help Fredericton’s become a more sustainable community. To date, 65 environmentally friendly businesses have been audited and awarded either a gold, silver or bronze medal based on the measures they have taken.
The Fredericton SPCA (38 credits) is one of four recipients of gold Green Shops medals honoured by Mayor Woodside. Stephanie Walsh accepted the medal on behalf of the SPCA. The other three gold medal recipients include: Sue Lawrence Hair and Spa Gallery, represented by Sue Lawrence (32 credits); the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage, represented by Lisa Ivany (36 credits); and Targett’s Windows and Doors, represented by Scott Targett, (33 credits).
The lone silver medal recipient was Brewbakers Restaurant, represented by Melanie Lapointe (27 credits).
Bronze medal recipients include: U-Wash Dog Wash (21 credits) represented by Lynn Appleby; Gas Free Grass Cutters (20 credits) represented by Lee Breen; and Eric Holman, the first Fredericton real estate agent to receive an Accredited Green Agent certification from The National Association of Green Agents and Brokers.
The Happy Baker, also represented by Melanie Lapointe, and the Bamboo Esthetics Studio, represented by founder Jessica Morehouse, were also recognized for joining the Green Shops program and, while neither has earned sufficient credits to receive a medal, they are both on their way.
